If you open the 1kb file you downloaded, you should see the filename of the flat.vmdk which holds the raw data (under ' Extent description') Even though you can't see this file in the datastore browser, you should still be able to download it, just change the path to 'MyDS:\xpTest\xpTest-flat.vmdk' or whatever the filename is. I checked the datastore, and that file doesn't exist. When we attempt to, it displays this error message. We fixed the failure, but can't boot the VM. We recently had a SAN failure that killed a very high-disk-activity VM while it was on.
